Avlis Hak Full Install version 2.0:

Post by Maigrey » Mon Jul 18, 2005 9:00 pm

Just built my new computer, did the install, did the upgrade, did the revert and now.....where is the full Avlis Hak install? It just has "In Progress" where I should click to do the install. I can maybe do the manual install but I really don't want to touch that RAR program again. Is there somewhere other than portal.php?getpage=hakpaks
to do the Avlis Hak download?

Scroll down a bit. All the haks are listed there. I'll see to getting the full installer updated. Actually, it's getting so big that we may have to break it into two.

Not to go into details, but I lost a portion of my hard drive, and needed to get another one and do a full reinstall of everything. I do however have all of my NWN & haks, etc, copied over, but the computer doesn't recognize it as being installed.

Besides reinstalling, NWN, SoU, HotU, and CEP1.5 & the update to 1.66 then the revert to 1.65, is there a faster way?

Thanks.

I think you can just download a manual install of 1.65 from Bioware site instead of using auto-update, and then reverting. You would still need to install everything else not counting CEP as you can just copy the haks.

Some actual information, so you guys will be in the know. Paraphrased from Themicles, our resident hakmaster:

If we go to 1.66 now, some of the head models in the CEP will be broken. Worst case, this could make some PCs unplayable. So we are waiting for the CEP guys to release their next patch.

If you go to the CEP's website you'll find this:
The CEP Team wrote:The CEP Team has finished the newest patch to stay current with NWN v1.66. We are working on subtle details and final versions of what we consider extremely important - such as having both rar and zip versions, updating our installation and patching instructions in the Player's Guide and converting our docs to PDF, distributing the files to download sites, and other tasks which we know are a critical part of its release.

We really appreciate your patience and support.

The newest patch of CEP is coming.
Yes, that means before August 2005.
So please direct any 'are we there yet?' questions to the CEP Team :)

Thanks for the update, Deider.

Can the Team disclose information on whether great stuff like the revised Holy Warrior PrCs and dynamic models for several custom races will be a part of the 1.66 update?

Cheers.

One advantage of us waiting for the CEP patch is that it potentially gives us time to add content like you mentioned above, or other content that I won't go into here. I say potentially, though, because the time we devote to such projects is limited by whatever hits us in RL. I'd rather not say what will or will not be added/changed because frankly nobody knows what will be ready by the time we go to 1.66.

Now that the CEP patch has been released, how much longer will we be waiting? I very much want to play the HeX coda. :-)

Patience please.

It's almost complete, but there are a few small things still needing done.

The haks wont be released any sooner than Monday.
And even then, it will take most worlds anywhere from a week to two weeks to actually patch.

[23:09] <Themicles> Okay, CoPaP Hak, Universal Hak, and CoPaP TLK wont be out Monday (well, maybe it will be, but I highly doubt it).
[23:09] <Themicles> I'm estimating no sooner than Tuesday due to a last minute inclusion.
[23:09] <Themicles> Friday at the latest.
[23:09] <Themicles> Spread the word, because I'm sick of the jabs at CoPaP for not updating, and people assuming it'll never happen.

Themicles types fast. Really fast. Four posts in one minute, and thinking of what to say, probably with room to spare. See, this took me two minutes already.

I told them in IRC instead of posting, because, no matter how many times I post it here, CoPaP.org, or Tairisnadur.com, no one ever seems to notice, and 10 people end up asking the same question in one day, because no one uses the search function.

Furthermore, in my experience, word travels faster through the gossip lines, than when I post notices of this sort. I've seen private things that never should have been said outside where they were originally said, travel and be known by more than 50 people in a single day.

To be honest, I'm fed up. I don't get paid for this. Even so, I work on these haks and the TLK straight. I don't do a tiny bit here, and a tiny bit there, unless I have to wait for other people's work to be turned in (or in this case, the CEP to update). And then, even after reading my notices, some people still complain. Want to complain? Go pay for an MMO.

I'm also fed up with people finding out things that are none of their business, and spreading it all around. But that's another subject, and another problem.

EDIT: FYI loki, not complaining about you, nor am I saying you're complaining. ;)

In my opinion, screw 'em. If they want to bitch, put them to work. If they are still bitching and don't want to help, ban 'em. Then you don't have to hear them bitch :D

Hear hear. Things are perfectly playable as they are, therefore, I don't see what the rush is.

Nah, it's not because Avlis is unplayable. I'm just anxious to play the HeX coda (the new Stefan Gagne module), help the PRC with alpha testing of their new release, and check out the new fixes and content. But I don't want to update and bar myself from playing Avlis. :(

i hate to break it to you, but its really easy to have 1.65 and 1.66 installed simultaneously on your machine. if its such a big deal to you.

I had 1.65 installed (i got a no-cd crack because i lost my play CD :-\ damn cats) i copied my nwmain.exe then i installed the 1.66 critical rebuild and that gave me a new nwmain.exe. so if i want to play on a 1.66 server i just use that exe, and if i want to play on a 1.65 server i use that exe.

I probably did a poor job of explaining that, but it works for me.

Best to copy the whole folder over rather than just use different exe files.

The good thing is that the ini file points to the location of the hak and tlk folders, so your second copy of nwn night can just not have those and point to where they are in the first copy.

1) copy your entire nwn folder and paste it somewhere else (if you have the space and don't want to mess around with haks filders)
2) run auto update from the original copy
3) use back up copy for avlis

It really is that simple, just ignore nwn getitng pissy when you start nwmain, it doesn't have the registry entries so it can't work out your version, it still works fine though.

4) when copap updates, delete back up copy
