Nanshilae elven, questions?

Post by White-Raven » Wed Mar 03, 2004 7:03 am

one hod
two shta
three loash
four bah
five maysh
six shaysh
seven sheev
eight shmoe
nine taysh
ten esra
Just wondering how is eleven, twelve is made or twenty etc?

Is it like; "esra hod", "esra shta"?

Yep that be it.

Tens are made by adding 'eem to the number.

20 shta'eem
30 loash'eem
40 bah'eem

etc...

I'm only learning the elvish language myself. What do ye think of these sites? I know the site uses Tolkiens version or a version of it. I know Tolkein was the orginator of the language, is it universal,ie do we all speak the same version?

Also, is there a word for Order? It would be cool to be able to put in a Nanshilae description of the Green Order's tower in game.

I'd like to know the Nanshilae word for sister.

We Warrior Maidens have little phrases that we often say in Nanshilae that contain "sister." It'd be nice if we could keep them in Nanshilae.

Quenya is the language of the Forgotten Realms elves (and of some tolkien elves, won't bother you with the Sundering and blah) , and the god Angadar came from that world and created the Dragonari Elves. Those elves still speak Quenya. If you wanna learn Dragonari, learn Quenya.

:?:

... I could've swore I saw in some other post somewhere that the Dragonari spoke Sindarin, while the rest speak Avlissian Elven (Hebrew/Arabic based language).

I can't recall which thread I saw it in, but I know I saw it...

I know for certain that they speak Quenya, I looked up some words I knew that were from the Dragonari language (Sereg'Wethrin) in a Quenya dictionary and the right translation came out.

There are many versions of quenya out there.

Drangonari speak a forgotten realms variant.

Here is a source that uses FR sources specifically:
http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/Semberholme/language.htm
(a downloadable, easily searchable dictionary)

The only real confusion is that the Sereg titles are all using the Grey Company quenya variant... and are not the same language the sereg or nanshi actually use in conversation.

How do you say Nature in Nanshilae?
Is Teva good? some other variant (tevoo ?) or something completely different?

Thanks :P

From this thread: viewtopic.php?t=9057

Good is toova

Although I don't see nature there, you could probably work around it with something like "sha'l", meaning haven, safe place (implies an outside area of forest) or "ranos", meaning haven, safe place (implies an outside area of fields). Sometimes you have to stretch a little when you have a limited vocabulary to work from.

I know 'Good' is 'Toova'.
I asked if i can use 'Teva' for 'Nature'
If i followed Orl's word transformation from Hebrew correctly i would say 'Tevoo' should do the trick. but it doesnt sound as nice as the origin :)
