NWN startup crash

Post by Spell Singer » Wed Nov 27, 2002 3:50 pm

I have the oddest crash that I can imagine. When I start the game I have between say 3 seconds and 300 seconds and then the game will crash. It locks up when I am talking or moving or even during the opening screens. It is totally random how long it will be from start up to crash but it seems to occur within 5 min.

I reboot the computer and then it works just fine I can play for as long as I want. I am running WinXP-pro on an athlon computer. So far as I know the drivers and such are all up to date so I am confounded by the behavior. Does anyone else have something similier?

One thing you could try doing, depending on the card you have...

Go into the card settings, and set the Antiallsing in it to over ride the software settings, and use the cards setting only.

This fixed the "atari logo crash" for me, it may help you.

No error messages other than the occasional "NWN has experienced and error and must be closed" but most of the time the game just stops. Can be in a transition, in a discussion, whatever. It just freezes and the sound also stops. But this crash has occured as early as one or another of the start screens, during internet connection, or within a few minutes of play starting. And it occurs everyday. What confounds me totally is that it occurs once...I can then reboot computer and play without problem?!?

I have a Ti4200 video card and will try out the suggestion on the anti-aliasing. I was going to give the name before but I had forgotten it.
