Servervault issue

Post by Jordicus » Sun Aug 08, 2004 7:34 pm

Ok.. something happened during the course of yesterday and a whole mess of characters were corrupted in the servervault.. This has caused the continual crashing today that people are expereincing.

Unfortunetly, there is only one way to resolve the problem. We have reverted to the previous day's backup of the servervault. This means that unfortunetly the entire previous 36 hours of progress of everyone is gone.

*sigh*

I'm sorry to disrupt your play with this, but there was no other way to get around it. We'll take it one step at a time.

Thanks for your patience and understanding

Um.... couldn't you have given us some warning that this was going to be done? I have spent the entire day from 9am till now (9pm) advancing my crafting skills and getting kitted out and such...

Putting Nathan on hold for now. Can't be bothered to repeat myself. Again.

So does this mean all characters created in the last 36 hours are gone then?

This is the warning I think. I'm sure this is a last resort, and has only ever happened once before.
*shrugs* shit happens, could be worse, it's not a vault wipe...

We all hate this.

However, if I understand Jordicus correctly - this is the fix.

Either we are all screwed equally due to the servers crashing or we are all screwed equally due to the rollback to the earlier (hopefully pre-screwup) copies of our characters.

Sorry, but these things happen. This is why we take Backups :?

EDIT: I hate it when half a dozen other people can type faster than me

yeah, it is annoying I have lost almost a whole level and a shed load of gold from crafting.

Still these things happen, nothing real has been lost - just annoying that it happened on a weekend :(

This seems to be a rotating thing that takes down servers, one at a time. Here's a question for you, though. I was on the Wilderness when it went down, and when it did, it did say my character was saved to the vault as the server crashed. Since, for example, Elysia is back up now, could I log into Elysia in an hour and would my character be updated with what happened on the Wilderness today? Or would it be better to wait until the problems are all fixed, and just log in after all servers were back up?

Thanks in advance, I posted this because I figured others might have the same question.

My guess is that you can login anywhere, as your characters were last seen 36 hours ago - only a guess though. :?

At least the backup took - company I used to work for lost 3 months worth of work on a project because the back ups were corrupted - nobody checked to see if the project could fit on just one tape :)

36 hours? That is over 2000XP, a level, over 30,000 gold and a successful visit to the Order of the Way!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Oh well, no other solution I guess. :(

Edit: Even worse than I though! I have lost over 5000XP!!

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck!!!

That must be the single biggest XP gathering session I have ever had and it is all gone! Why couldn't this have happened last weekend when I got about 200 XP all effing weekend?!?!

Ah, nto your fault, but aaargh!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

Does the rollback include database stuff like crafting xp?

I'm sorry to hear this was the only option, but I'd do it ten times over if it made every character playable again.. go team! ;)

YOu have not seen my edit, it is even worse. But let's be honest, level 17 in 10 months as Kered does not even compare to lots of people.

I now have 131,277 instead of about 136,600!!! *cries* My single biggest effort ever to get a level and it is all gone.

DB related info such as crafting and whatnot are fine. It's just char XP and any items gained or lost during that time period..

Be pleased that it doesn't mean total character loss.

Having lost a character to a vault fuck up before, after 1 year of consistent play... and not even getting a chance to say "goodbye" to him or those he had relationships with was heartbreaking.

36 hours, yeah it sucks... but it could have been a lot worse.

Thanks team,

As a minor consolation, anything database related will remain at its pre-rollback level. Crafting experience, chest contents and rents, etc. Yes, it will seem very weird.
