Sereg PCs
Hello, I am not sure if this is the correct forum, but I think so...
I am new here (have not even made my character yet), but have been looking through the wiki and such. I have been thinking of a character concept, but not sure if it is viable.
I would like to play a Sereg. The concept is sort of an anti-hero, similar to the darker Punisher incarnations. Basically, he would be chaotic Neutral, and not a 'nice' person. But his violence tends to be directed at the evil forces, especially the evil human forces. It is, of course, a great feeling to kill humans; but if you kill the evil humans, they don't try and hunt you down as much. Not that he likes the other humans...pretty much disdains them all.
Sereg seems like a good match for this, the low Cha fits the gruff no-time-to-be-cheery mindset; and designed to go around in the evening, 'hunting' bad guys to take out.
But....
How 'hunted' are Sereg on the server? Once I leave Underdark, am I just going to get killed over an over? Will I not be able to enter other towns? Is the player concept just not feasible?
Thanks

Re: Sereg PCs
Sereg are kill-on-sight everywhere but the Underdark. That means that on other servers unless you hide yourself (cover your skin completely, for example), you will likely be killed. If you really want to play a sereg, I suggest playing on the Underdark server and get involved with the other sereg PCs (there are many of them down there). You will also want to be evil rather than CN if you play there.
Also, welcome to Avlis, good luck and have fun!

Re: Sereg PCs
You are going to be killed on sight by practically everyone else in the game. There are ways to disguise your sereg to prevent this, but he will be in constant danger.
Additionally, sereg society is mostly amoral, and so a sereg who cares about Evil will seem odd and possibly dangerous to his fellow sereg, making him a possible target for sudden death even in Verlog.
As a concept it could work, but I usually suggest that new players not roll a sereg, just because it can feel like griefing. Other characters won't even talk to them... the history of the sereg means they'll be stabbed without a word other than "charge!" 90% of the time.
Try something else, or something else in addition to your sereg concept, until you have a chance to check out the other servers... the sereg players are an awesome bunch of excellent RPers, but it really is a tough road to be on for your very first Avlis character ever.

Success will be lovely, but you will have to go out and get it! Failure will invite itself in.

Re: Sereg PCs
Coming from someone who can pretend to get along with anyone IG... as a sereg, you'd only avoid a stabbing if I had a real good reason not to do it (aka expect a beating or be a fast talker
). Sereg have a long history with PC's besides the actual written history. Before they were a playable race, they scared the crap outta us in painful ways *avoids mentioning any specific DM names, and hides in a hole for the next 6 months*. That is hard to forget

Re: Sereg PCs
If you don't hate all the humans - without distinction - there's a good chance of you being hunted down by other Sereg as wellBasically, he would be chaotic Neutral, and not a 'nice' person. But his violence tends to be directed at the evil forces, especially the evil human forces. It is, of course, a great feeling to kill humans; but if you kill the evil humans, they don't try and hunt you down as much.

Sereg'wethrin seem to enjoy the feeling of uniformity within their numbers: personal quirks are tolerated as long as they don't render you unwieldy in terms of survival/warfare, but getting picky about what humans you kill could be over the edge a bit.
In other words:
* "Commander, let's not kill this teenage bikini priestess of Cha'reth, she's such a good person" = no.
* "Commander, if we kill this teenage bikini priestess of Cha'reth in the middle of the town, we're going to get those elite troops stationed here all over us! Let's poison their food first!" = yes.
Besides, if you want to play a lone wolf Sereg'wethrin, there's an even better chance some other cell-operating Sereg'wethrin will find out about you and track you down as a rogue Sereg. No cell assignment, no High Command orders = you endanger the race = you are a threat to be removed.
KOS to almost everyone, including the goody goody mellowsmoke folk. Of course, there's the FOIG. There's always a FOIG. But that FOIG has a stench of pure evil about it.How 'hunted' are Sereg on the server?

First: ~if~ you leave UnderdarkOnce I leave Underdark, am I just going to get killed over an over? Will I not be able to enter other towns?

They won't kill you if they won't see you, but this disables a lot of interaction with other players. And to keep a good disguise 24h/day moving through, say, Elysia? An ordeal. Until you get twenty-and-some stealth skills, you're plainly visible nearly to everyone, so stealth becomes a valid option only later on. Sereg on the surface stay really put and stick to the shadows. Visiting Mikona...?

Personally, I wouldn't dare to play such a character. It might be doable, but you'd miss a whole lot of what Avlis has to offer. Is the player concept just not feasible?
Nonetheless: if you like the concept of the Sereg'wethrin as a race and if you'd like to play one, you're more than welcome - our little Sereg'wethrin community in the UD (and beyond

Cheers,
M.
EDIT:
You don't want to roll a non-evil PC in the UD. Things might go wrong once/if ever you reach the city, and it's more or less the only low-lvl friendly place to earn gold to get out of there.

Re: Sereg PCs
To play devil's advocate here, major props to the folks behind the regular underdark outings. The posts remind me of when FEAT was doing stuff all the time for anyone, and as regular. I know the dm's behind it are well in need of more raves, but the same goes for the players who keep it going.
If you really want to go sereg, you'll have stuff to do there. I'd suggest doing it as an alt character though so you can also play with the other folks for now. Once you get more experience with how much everyone hates sereg, you can enjoy the fun in the sun with less pain.

My 2 cents because It's 5 am:
What everyone else said above. You'll have trouble getting out of the Underdark.
As a new player, there aren't very many people (If Ever *Points to Anomandaari.
logged on to the UD server to even guide you around being a difficult PC.
Even if you do get epic levels, and wear all sneak gear, and go to the surface, most mages cast True Seeing on themselves and have it on constantly regardless of where they are. Specifically for newbie seregs like you!! (I'm joking)

Re: Sereg PCs
The concept works, in fact its exactly the same kind of concept that I had for my main and first character. Of course in the end he turned out nothing like that (yes I admit it, he was going to be based on Wolverine...)
I dont think you'd have to play a Sereg to do this, keep the concept and use say a dwarf or gnoll or half orge or even a boring human.
At the end of the day of course its your character and you have to go with what is fun but it still has to be within reason (which is what sets Avlis apart as an RP world)
That said, I think you could achieve more of what your after with one of the non Kill On Sight races to be perfectly honest.
Good luck, welcome to Avlis and I hope to see you IG sometime soon.

Re: Sereg PCs
As a player of a pc sereg, I think your sereg character concept would not work for all of the reasons stated above. Also, you don't want to create a CN sereg because you won't start in Verlog (need to be evil in alignment). Trust me, you are not going to enjoy your experience much where good and neutrals start on the Underdark server
Read up on Wiki for the underdark and for Sereg. If you still would like to make a sereg, we would be happy to have you in the land down under.

Re: Sereg PCs
Wow, thanks for all of the great replies.
I did read the wiki, and was definitely getting the impression that it just wouldn't work the way I was hoping. I can modify it and use a different race instead.
Actually, I am still tempted to try it... but I will let it be a second/third character. When I don't mind dieing all the time.
