I've been Rping for quite awhile now, but refused to actually go out and purchase the 3ed books (mostly because the art and sheer insulting simplicity of the writing turned me off) I want to start on Avlis with a bit of a framework for my characters (I had a geeky Wizard wracked by a horrible physical afflication and ghost pale skin when I started in Arleah) the best character qualities are gained through RP and ultimately trying to react uniquely to different situations, but I think all characters start out with a good history.

I have a few questions:

Are drow automatically "evil", or can I have a non-evil drow?

Is their an underdark?

What is a psion? I am very familiar with second edition psionics and psionicists. (and was interested to find out that psionics are actually trusted, a difference from the witch hunts I was used to in Pnp) I actually have a psionicist I'd like to convert to Avlis and even have a psionic philosopy that I've grown rather fond of. But I've been poking around NWNvault looking for a psionic class to play through single player with when I found a psion and uses something called psi crystals and got very scared that WoTC might have butchered psionics. Some information on the powers would be awesome so I can figure out how they are used in RP situations. Like the evil psionicist uses pyrokinesis to pry information from a goblin scout.

Are psionics openly flaunted? or accepted, even respected, but I don't want to know about it?

Whats the Psion Warrior class?

I was a bit scared when I found out your items could be looted from your corpse....and am rather suprised this hasn't caused its fair share of OOC bad blood. Any words of comfort?

How easy is it to find low level characters to adventure with? (5-10 range)

How are different languages handled? I know on another server I play on we use so called language tokens. You must have the token to see the real text, otherwise it just looks like babble. (annoying when your wizard with 23 int has been waiting weeks for his 6+ languages he shouild know.

I like this question: are all my questions annoying you?

What are feelings towards "Special Races" I know this is on a character to character basis. But are certain territorys more prone to hatred towards one race or another? I'd imagine a wemic would get a funny looks going into a human village.

If my questions can be answered elsewhere, please direct me to it.

Many answers to your questions can be found with the search utility in the forum. You just need to have a little luck in putting down good keywords.

First of all, you should read a little more on the topic of the world (like the starting guide). It will save you headache later and make your gaming more immersive. As for dark elves, read this: viewtopic.php?t=33313

There are no drow native to Avils, hence one is not allowed to do so here in Avlis. Not to mention that there is another 'race' of dark (from conditioning) elves called sereg'wetherin that have plagued avlis (and the PCs!), so any dark elf is going to be killed on sight as it will be assumed to be a Sereg (not a player race anyways). There are drow on the CoPaP world of Hala, so you may want to look there if you have the desire to play in a world with drow.

On the topic of looting, there is a gentlemans rule that, for the most part, keep such things under control. However, it is within the rules if it is done with a purpose and with respect to the other player (griefing style is not allowed on this server, search that for clarification).

And it should not be hard to find people to adventure with, you just need to have patience and make a few friends. :)

Hope you have fun.

I have been playing a custom race for a while and I feel that it has given me more respect and not less and more times for role-playing opportunity.

Most of the time, unless you die in a very heavily trafficked area or leave your corpse out overnight, chances are no one will stumble across it.

Furthermore, the general consensus among players is "Do unto others..." Most people have had experiences with looting, and most players I know of won't loot anything extremely important, if loot at all - they know how it feels. Most of the time, you'll maybe be looted a potion or a couple of heal kits, at worst. There are always risks, though... but hey, death should be something you wanna avoid, right?

No drow on Avlis. Look up the Sereg, or the Drangonari if you'd like to play an evil elven related race. Sereg are currently not a PC race, however.
Is their an underdark?
There is... but I shall not reveal more.

Avlis languages are actual languages with their own word structure, vocab, etc. In short, you'll have to learn it yourself.... but for the most part, language plays no signifcant role other than adding colour.
What are feelings towards "Special Races" I know this is on a character to character basis. But are certain territorys more prone to hatred towards one race or another? I'd imagine a wemic would get a funny looks going into a human village.
Check World Information Race Threads labeled "Avlis Races: ____" to find out more. The only outstanding racial hatred is that for Shaahesk (lizardman) - they're kill on sight on the Le'Or server, the Elysia Server, and the northern regions of the Wilderness server.

How easy is it to find low level characters to adventure with? (5-10 range)
Depends - time zone, play times, etc. is always a factor. Feel free to start something up yourself using the IC boards, though.
What is a psion?
Psions are actually a base class in 3ed, but because of the way NWN works Avlis has to implement them as a Prestige Class. The Psionicist class can be taken as early as level two, and I believe it does not count for multiclass penalties. Go to the "Private Discussions: Monks and Psions" for more info and more specific questions.

Finally, some general words of advice:

Create your character and test him in a single player module with Avlis haks, just to get a feel for how he or she will handle. You'll save yourself loads of grief later.

Do a lot of reading on these boards- read everything you can on these boards - they're a wealth of info on Avlis. Spend some time wading through the World Info, if you can.

Learn the use of the Search tool - it's very handy if you know how to manipulate it.

Finally, welcome to Avlis!
