Sorceror & Wizard

Post by MacLeod » Mon Jun 17, 2002 1:09 am

Ok, I have a LOT of thoughts on this area, but before I voice them (if I voice them) I have a few questions to ask.

Are MetaMagic feats implemented? Which ones? Item creation is probably out for the most part, but what about Brew Potion and Scribe Scroll?

(Begin mindless drivel here: )
Metamagic feats are to me, one of the things that can make a sorceror quite powerful, as he does not have to plan for every metamagic combination before using them, he can combine them on the fly while a Wizard must do quite a bit of planning in this. On the other hand, wizards get access to a huge amount of spells and can scribe many of these (preferrably the lower level ones, to save in cost and experience) into scrolls, which allows him to cast them without spending a spell slot, and therefore make more efficient use of his more limited spells per day, as well as his need for spell prepartion.

Until the game comes out (which will be very shortly btw), it is uncertain to me which feats stayed in the game and which did not. I know for a fact that some of the fighter type skills and feats have been taken out and others (like parry and discipline) that are not in 3rd Ed have been added. So I can't tell you much about how that will affect wizards and sorcerers.

Item creation should not be that unbalancing once you reach a level. Don't forget that you will need a certain amount of money to make an item, as well as a certain amount of exp. Making an item will take a lot out of you. Even the simplest things, like potions, will still cost you some cash and components. If you managed to set yourself up as a prosperous potion merchant in Avlis, more power to ya.

In a fight, the wizard will almost always lose at low level and almost always win at high level. That's the way the game is, and I don't think that will change in NWN.
