A newbie question on inn rooms

I've recently managed to hire a room in an inn. This is paid for on a weekly basis, yet I was wondering if I need to pay the innkeeper in person or if the rent is automatically taken from my character cash?

The first time you open the door after the rent is due, the money will be taken from your available funds.

A word of note...
Make sure before you open the door that you do have the funds for your rent and any back rent you may owe - I hear there are potential problems if you can't come up with the money upfront, with your room being rented out as you are now a "deadbeat customer".

I know when the rent is due I will be away OOC visiting family. Iwas just concerned that the room and my gear would become someone else's property!
