Question about Lycantrophy
Well I heared that Lycantrophy is back in, right? Well then I have a question:
Do all infected grow mad when in their Lycan form or do some remain sane?

Excellent! If Syd get's it I'll RP it that he keeps his sanity. Would be mighty interesting to RP an evil bastard like him as a were-creature

Some community opinions from the past:

In PnP becoming wereform usually means you lose all ability for rational thought and become what you look like: a drooling, slavering monster. I say usually because there are some ways to control lycantrophy. Those are all not implemented in NWN though.
Possibly you could simulate trying to retain your personality and cognitive functions by making a will save for yourself. Failure: monster time. Succes: the reason remains. I don't quite know what the DC of the save should be, depends on what sort of infection you have and how dificult you want to make it on yourself.
This is just a suggestion, not a rule in any way. The Avlis team will not be enforcing this.
Personally I think D'Anjal is right: Lycantrophy is a disease, a very discomforting disease at that. It presents the risk of losing one's self for some time and does this through a very painful transformation. Only the most disturbed and masochistic individuals would welcome such, and we're talking 100% loony-bin basket cases here.

So much fun,
yet so little time to enjoy it.

Well I think that anyone who met Syd knows he's one sick bastard
I like the idea of a will save depending on the infection so thx for that idea Sindol
I think the excruciating pain is something Syd could bare because he is as said quite disturbed. I think such an RP would be fun to have and Syd already has the makings of an excellent werecreature (cannibalistic tendencies, vicious personality and a real son of a bitch

My take on the wererat curse:
at first you have no control as a wererat, but over time you begin to retain your memory/personality while in wererat form.
I read a forgetten realms book once by R.A. Salvatore where there was a wererat guild, they mostly enjoyed having the curse and were not raving mad beasts as rats, they used weapons. I don't know if that pertains the the avlis world but it seems plausible.

Talking of ridiculous transformations, I remember that in the 1st or 2nd edition 'deities and demigods' or 'legends and lore' (whatever) there was a hero in the north american mythos with a magical cloak that allowed him at will to turn into...
wait for it...
A HALIBUT!
And no I haven't invented this, I still remember the blank looks on the faces of our PnP group while we tried to visualise a villian using this item in front of a party of PCs....

Would make a great guild item for Forian's Confounders. Maybe a sword that can cover an area with fish?Mothandric wrote:Talking of ridiculous transformations, I remember that in the 1st or 2nd edition 'deities and demigods' or 'legends and lore' (whatever) there was a hero in the north american mythos with a magical cloak that allowed him at will to turn into...

Once again I rack up the Lycanthropy thing
Does the Fortitude Save you have to make to negate the change increase the longer you have the affliction or not?

Yeah I'm also a long term Lycan but I keep getting cured by them do-gooders so I can't say I have the affliction a long time in a row

This made my mind go off on a tangent to silly D&D stuff:
I'm sure i've read a reference somewhere to an old D&D sourcebook with an evil demonic vending machine...

Re: Question about Lycantrophy
It'd be interesting if you had to make a will save or suffer the Confusion effect, and have that decrease the longer time you spent in were form.. and have the Fortitude save increase with time... represents getting more control over yourself in were form, but having your morphic resonance adjusting to the new shape..Sydney Losstarot wrote: Do all infected grow mad when in their Lycan form or do some remain sane?
Be mindful of the prayers you send
Pray hard but pray with care
For the tears that you are crying now
Are just your answered prayers

While in the were form you have the intellegence of an animal under blood lust. So the question of sanity does not come into it.
To retain some control over this would require a will save on the order of 30..in the case of Sydney since he has no traits which oppose the animals that would be about a will save of 35.
A were creature has control...but in that case it is natural for them to change...but some one infected by lycanthropy is a horse of a different colour.
My $0.02 on this anyway.
