Hey Orl can you post information on the god Toran? I've looked but I don't see any real breakdown listed on the forums.

LN: Toran War, evil, or even peace, and goodness do not really concern the creator of the Dracon. His message is one of order. If everyone can go about their business in an orderly way, things will run much smoothly, whether they are wars, or good deeds. Absolute discipline is the key.

Orleron wrote:Toran

LN god of Dracon, and War

Toran believes that chaos is a blight on the universe. Whenever something is out of order, or not organized properly, Toran is on the trail towards making it right, forcefully if necessary. The universe as it was created is flawed. Instead of having a place for everything, and everything in its place, there exists disorder, confusion, destruction, and a whole host of other things like personal issues with people. The average person's mind chatters over 400 words per minute. Most unenlightened folk are not even aware that as they go about their normal lives, their minds are talking away unimpeded about anything and everything. When they walk down the street, the subject matter of their thoughts will drift from one thing to another seamlessly and at random. Emotions follow thought and actions follow emotion. So if one's mind is chaotic, their emotions and eventually their actions will also be that way too.

This is a disease that everyone lives with, and it must be stopped, according to Toran's teachings. Enlightenment is achieved when a person's thoughts, emotions, and actions are put under control. At that point the person becomes "free" to act as they truly need to act. Their actions will be in accordance with Toran's will, and they will know what must be done.

But how does one reach enlightenment?

Discipline. Strict, unflagging, unfailing discipline. There is no other way. The only way to bring about the stillness that comes when one's thoughts and actions are controlled is to enforce discipline on oneself and on the outside world. The chaos of the world can "leak" into a person. If one is in a quiet environment, it is much easier to become quiet along with it. However, if the environment is full of chaos, then that chaos will seep into the person causing them to lose control of their discipline. Even another person's random thoughts can seep into nearby people and cause them to think chaotically.

War has often brought chaos, however, this is not so with the followers of Toran. Anyone who has seen them in battle will know why Toran is one of the gods of War. The philosophy of war is simple according to him. A battle is the ultimate expression of chaos. When you are in a battle, you must not give in to the confusion, but instead you must be the "eye of calm in the middle of the hurricane". All the chaos will swirl around you, but you shall not be touched by it. When you have vanquished your foe, their chaos will be eliminated, only to be replaced with the freedom of your stillness.

Battles are fought by the followers of Toran in all wars on the face of Avlis. They are highly prized as mercenaries because they will fight for almost anyone, and they do so in an extremely well disciplined and organized shock troop manner.

That is a brilliant description. I've been playing an LN character. Might just have to pick up a diety.

Much more info about gods is usually on the clerics board. This class has a unique inside knowledge of the gods of Avlis. Knowledge of gods and religions is their business afterall. If you're that interested in the philosphy of the Avlissian gods, you might want to consider playing a cleric.

We still need to set up orders for all the nine major gods of Avlis, so they can train the nine holy warrior PrCs. Religion wants you, but do you want religion?

Hmm. which gods still need orders developed? I am in fact considering playin g a cleric, I love how developed the philosophies are and how they suit the RP environment.

I think Syrin's looking for a cause worth converting too right now, and his player is frustrated by not being able to find one...

/em wonders over to the cleric boards.

And handily enough, Aarilax fits my idea of true evil... self over all other concerns... which I would absolutely love to explore. Not to mention having the holy warriors with the coolest name 8)

Hmm. Maybe it's time to create an evil character and show myself worthy. I'd never even considered playing an evil character before... but what better way to unwind after a day of treating complete bastards nicely (I'm a support worker, this involves being nice to, for example, abusive parents).

/em goes postal: I've had enough of treating you like a human being! you're scum! DIE DIE DIE. *ahem*.

I spent some time IC and using the church of maleki section of the evil board looking for this order you talk of. As the most active malekite on the boards and in game, not my opinion, that is what the others told me. After talking to the malekites I and every other spoke to none have seen this order. That malekite order you talk about does not exist. Maybe it once did, but it does not now.

An "Order" of Forian followers? Doesn't that kind of defy the purpose? I'd think that they would have no organization whatsoever and the holy warriors wouldn't so much be trained by an order as just sort of happen randomly to those who "qualify".

Put enough chaos together, and you can predict it.

And yes, though "Order" is perhaps a bit amusing, there must be some semi-organization/herd that generally has to do with Forian. Just because you are chotic doesn't mean you can't be in an organization. Just think of real world anarchists! ;)

AFAIK The Malekite church ws headed by Icarusdaddy, the DM for Maleki. He has been gone a long time now and most of the Malekite players are MIA.

Not so much an ORDER as a SECT, dig? The Friends of Forian would be a group of free-spirits, artists, and drug-addled madmen, who would recognized each other through occult symbology and behavioral mannerisms, all of whom generally agree on the idealogical valuelessness of ethics and seek experience, unfiltered, for it's own sake.

Sometimes, they'd gather, mostly when word got out among the Friends that someone had discovered some new experience, be it a drug or a newly-discovered dungeon or T'Nanshin cleats that make you go *CLOMP CLOMP CLOMP* when you walk around in them.

Think the Hellfire Club, only less emphasis on ritualized parties.

Now I just need a DM.
