You don't necessarily have to make a bland character, but I would advise waiting until level 2 before you spend skill points. Also try not to go too berserk with the 8s and 6s. I reckon one might be enough but 2 8s and a 6 is just pushing it

That isn't what dark vision does. Dark vision = low light vision but better.

Half-Nymphs no longer get their +5 SR.

Half-Nymphs get 'fake' bonus stats (as you'd do if you wanted a subrace without using auto-bic) before they become half-nymphs via the golem. I think this used to happen before the patch but it never caused a problem.
