Attack Bonus or Enhancement Bonus?

I'm still not sure what the actual difference is with these, maybe someone has an explanation? I thought it was that only Enhancement Bonus could go through resistances, like needing a +5 weapon to cut through stoneskin; and then bows were the exception, since there aren't bows with enchancement bonus.

But I tried a rapier with +3 attack bonus, and it cuts through spells just as well as the rapier with +3 enchancement bonus, the only difference is that the first one doesn't do the +3 damage the second one does.

Is this a bug, or is the damage the actual difference? Is there something I don't understand altogether?

+5 enchantment = +5 damage (slashing, bludgeon, or piercing), +5 AB, goes through stoneskins, etc.

+5 AB = +5 AB, goes through stoneskins, etc.

You understand it right :D

the AB is the poor mans enchantment, you could say.

i asked this same question the other day. it was explained that a +1 enhancement gives +1 attack and +1 damage, while the +1 attack is only that (edit- Darkfire quicker than I).

The question i forgot to ask, though, if anyone cares to answer a related question while answering this one, is what is Mighty with regards to bows, such as the Rock Elm bow that's +5 Mighty.

Mighty means that a strentgh bonus can be applied to the bow, for damage purposes.

ie. a Mighty +5 will add a +5 str bonus, if you have it...or +4 or +3...whatever your Strength bonus is, to damage.

Oh it's just that then, great! Thank you :)

A bow with +5 Mighty as a property would allow the PC to add up to 5 points of his/her STR modifier to the bow's damage, as I understand it.

EDIT: My spectacular speed-typing skills strike again...

Used to be that +AB weapons didn't get through damage resistance, that made enchantment bonuses much much better. It got changed in a patch way back so that they do which kind of evened the playing field and made alot of craftable weapons rather better than they used to be!

Blame BioWare's lazy implementation of Arcane Archers for that.

Waaait a second, you're saying that a longsword with + 5 AB would cut through damage reduction spells just as well as a longsword with an enhancement of + 5?

....

If so... that is nice.... I think

Edit: thanks for the quick reply Dark

Yep, way better. A crafted Burning Longsword will be treated as a +1 weapon for purposes of penetrating DR

This change came in a long long time ago. I really don't remember Avlis without it.

ok, I didn't know it was changed either. That makes a lot of weapons suddenly a bit nicer now. Awesome!
