I hope they release shortly after the initial, or I'm out of a (non-paying) job :(

They said because there was no time to do it properly they will release it after the game is out, probably with one of the first patches.

In the same thread it was said that a team would take six to nine months to set up a PW properly.

+1, and when they release a linux port of the core game.

What I find disturbing about all this is what it says about the state of NWN2 development as a whole, it would seem that Atari's very eager to get this out the door, even if it means shelving one of the major features touted for the game.

Let's face it, NWN is nothing special, it can't compare to the old IWD/BG series or to TES in terms of single player content, the multiplayer component is one of the biggest selling points.

If Atari's financial shape is so bad that they have to get NWN2 out like this, even half-completed and deleting one of the major features of the game, this speaks very very ill of Atari's ability to continue funding NWN2 development after its release, and the ability for them to continue to support the product.

Obsidian means well, no doubt, and their statements about recoding the DMC is a great one, the more time I spend with the NWN1 DMC the more its shortcomings are apparent, but if Atari can't spare the money or time to make sure Obsidian does this correctly and can revamp the DMC for NWN2 BEFORE release, what chance do we really have to see NWN2 supported like NWN, and what chance do we really have to actually see this new DM Client released at all?

Granted their support with Dragonshard hasn't been bad (though I would hardly call it "good" either) but this is worrying.

I feel the same, if they can't put it in the game on release, I doubt they will do it after, or try and wrap it in an expansion a year later.

If this was coming from Bioware, I would have no problem with it. Bio has stuck with NWN.

Obsidian has to earn that kind of trust....

Eh.. Just means NWN will live much, much longer

I, for one, am growing increasingly tired of software companies shipping out half-finished, bug-ridden products, and then expecting people to pay full price and wait patiently for the inevitable series of patches.

It's almost as big a load of crap as Oblivion's series of $1.99 "additions" to the game. Horse armor? Please. The sad part is, a huge amount of people actually bought it.

From the bits I read in those links it seems to me that Atari can't delay NWN 2. They seem to be in a bit of trouble at the moment and are probably looking to NWN 2 as a winfall that could bail the company out. I wouldn't be surprised to see NWN 2 release early if things get really desperate. It seems we multiplayers are the minority and would get the shaft if it came to it.

I think they feel they have to release it while it graphically looks good. That's hardly fair, with the two clients and all of the server backend code that they have to support in addition to just a game. But that's just the way the market is. People see eye candy and buy eye candy.

Unfortuneatley when a project has to stick to a deadline sometimes there are specs that need to be dropped in order to meet it. Bummer.

I too will wait for this 'later patch' before buying. I don't buy unfinished products.

That would explain why they are only showing the player client and the toolset at E3. I'll ask about this tomorrow if I have any time.

NOT!

Guaranteed... the supposed $20 for games refers to existing titles collecting dust in warehouses and not new releases.

Even rushed to release, incomplete ones

Damn. I don't think I'll buy an expensive NWN2 until we know there will certainly be a DM client (and we'll know that when it's actually released), because without NWN2 Avlis, there's no point in me spending all that money.

Don't hold your breath. Even Bioware took an additional year to get theirs out.

Oh and if this is a Vista Exclusive... well, that'll just have to exclude me then.

I suppose yous have to remember that Avlis wont be ready for NWN2 for many many months after release.

I'd rather they release it w/ out the DM client and add that thru a patch later, then release it now half assed. They probably are dumping the crews working on the DM client to work on other areas to get ready for the release and avoid any more pushbacks. The DM client is great, but you can run a PW with out DM intervention, considering DM's aren't on 24/7 on any PW I've seen. And you can run multiplayer w/ out the DM client.

Also, from a business viewoint, they really need the game released this holiday season, last I saw was a 9/19/06 release, and they really need to get it in the stores for Christmas.

very unlikely, since Vista won't be out for non-corporate versions till early 2007. Any program that is "Vista Exclusive" will be killing its sales.
