The World of Avlis

I got the the end of chapter 2 there is a gate with a group of people beyond it that are suppose to do a ritual when i walk up to the gate and then the gate will open but they never start the ritual I dont know if im missin something or what to do.

I got to that point to, except for me the gate doesn't even open....
Have you got past it yet?
