Avlis PW Updates

Ok, day 1, people...
Silk ran out and got us copies of the game. Woo hoo!
We decided that the first place to be created will be the city of Mikona, located in the mostly human nation of M'Chek. There's reasons for this that I'll detail if you ask me, but tonight I tried fiddling with the toolset mostly.
We don't plan to put up a cheesy world to blow people away so we can test things. We will put up areas, but when they are at LEAST mostly done.
That being said, I was able to bang out the basic layout of one area, the temple area of Mikona. Silk took the docks area. Maybe he'll post his progress too. *bump*
My impresions..... I couldn't make it as customized as I would like, but that's because there's no custom made tilesets out yet. Eventually there will be, but in the meantime I'm just using the ones given with the game so we can get something up.
The plan.... We're going to do the whole city of Mikona, but with no scripted quests of any major value. We're just going to get the city up and running so people have a place to hang out. Aside from talking to meandering NPC's, there won't be much to do on the first couple days. After that, we'll start to script in a few small quests to see how it goes..... don't forget we are learning right along with you. Avlis has been on pnp for over 10 years, but we have no idea how to use most of this software yet. So bear with us, and it will be cool.

Ok, I couldn't resist. I'm just a beginner at this right now, but I will post it anyway..... the first Avlis screenshot.
You're looking at the main temple to the god Mikon, whom the city was named after. He's the major god of neutrality, you could say. On the upper left is the circular temple of Valok. On the left next to the temple of Mikon is a plaza full of what will be lesser shrines to other gods.

LOL
I'm actually suprised at the ease with which you can create areas. That thing didn't take me more than an hour or two to create, and that was with putting all the thought into it and the like. (Of course it helps to have thought about it all before in countless pnp campaigns, but...) If you look at the picture closely, you'll see it's still unfinished. It needs the litlte objects on the street to be added.
But yesterday I was walking around inside the area with a premade character and it was a crazy feeling.
SILK HOW ARE THE DOCKS? DID YOU PLAY WITH THE TOOLSET LAST NIGHT?
Once people really start hacking this thing, they will post their own tilesets, and I'm gonna be all over those. Hacking it yourself is hella hard. You need third party software out the yingyang and I can't figure it out yet. Maybe when I do figure it out I will add our own tilesets, but in the beginning we will stick to what they gave us with the game.

How did you get to do a mini-walkthrough of the area you created? If it is in the manual, then just tell me to shut up.

i think he means he loaded it up into the game and played it (kinda like we are playing the chapters right now)
Ive been messing around with it a bit am waiting for a program that will let us customize it more
Orleron do you know anyway to make custom buildings without having to use C?

Holy shit that's cool
What impressed me so far was how easy the toolset is to work with.
Last night i was just playing around getting familiar with the tools, i didn't start on the docks yet. But it's cool how easy it is. I set up a forrest and put to Ancient Dragons (Red vs. Gold) together to duke it out. It was quite the scene.
Gold won.
cool!

Did the Ancient Dragons fight each other automatically or did you have to do something? And how did you watch it? Is there a spectator mode or did you just hide in the corner somewhere.
Sorry for the questions. I'm at work and can't test anything out myself. :cries:

Damn, I can't do anything right now cuz I gotta go to a goddamn wedding. People, stop inviting me to your fucking weddings. I've got no more money, and I want to finally work on NWN stuff. Sheesh.
Anyhow..... yeah, to play the area you just made, all you have to do is load up the game, click on New Game, then click on Other modules and select your module from the list.

Oh well, look on the bright side: someone else is paying. Get drunk at their expense and enjoy.

I'm thinking of doing a server test with Silk pretty soon. I've got two areas more or less laid out. There's nothing to do in them, and I'm still working on the NPC's.... scripting is fun, but can be a pain.
We're going to be in a learning curve for a while, but once these things start picking up they should come easy.
Mikona Docks

Here's what I got so far of the Mikona docks:

I also setup the sewer system underneath the docks.
Alot of this is generic. We need to fill in specific buildings when we create quests.

Man, I tried my first multiplayer game last night. Someone serious, running a serious world, has the potential to create a lot of fun. This game is awesome.
