Use of poison

From time to time I come across little vials of poison, e.g. venom from some creature or other.
I once successfully managed to put this on a blade, but usually I just fail the DEX check.
I got a few questions. In no particular order ...
1. What is the DC for the DEX check I never found this anywhere?
2. Can the poison be applied to arrows / other ammo? (Poison shuriken like in OOTS

)
3. Do I have to be evil to use poison? (I know there is no engine restriction)
4. Does the effects of poison stack?
5. Do many people actually use it?
6. From what I see it only has a very short duration. How long?
Thanks in advance.

1) Seems to be a DC 18 for Non-Assassins and Non-Blackguard. Those two PRCs automatically succeed.
2) Yes, to arrows, at least. No idea about suriken.
3) Poison is an ages old impliment of primitive hunters. It gets the job done, period. I would say that Neutral and non-lawful types could use limited poison aplications, but not insidious use or constant.
4) Yes[/u]. I tested all of the various types and grades of poison on myself with help ages ago. Od the three types (Bee, Scorpion and Centipede, I beleive) they damage a different physical stat in two stages. 1st stage is one point, second is 1d4, I think. Poison DC is only 14, though. And they do stack on the same stat, or can be used to affect more than one stat at a time.
5) I use them for RP ppurpouses only, nowadays.
6) I think it's minutes per level duration, based on the grade of poison. Weak, normal and deadly, I think are the grades? Not sure.

I just wanted to clarify the effects of poison. Their DCs vary according to their strength and go from a relatively weak 16 up to a quite decent 26. Damage is always 1d2 on a failed save and another 1d2 with the secondary save.
And this info can be found in the manual too.

Well, there you have it!
All this time, I had no idea it was in the manual...
*suddenly realizes he allowed himself to get stabbed repeatedly to test this stuff out for absolutely nothing...*

What actually isn't in the manual is the DC to use poison without the Use Poison class ability. I know it's super hard but not exactly how hard. DC 18 sounds about right anyway.

With my +7 dex mod (with Cats and a belt of agility) I succeed more than I fail.

I was wondering, I tried to use some centipede poison on an assassins dagger the other night, I got a message that I failed because the weapon needs to be a melee/something type weapon. Is it this way because it's a CEP item?

You bettcha. Before Spell Hooking and various other spell tweaks, you used to be unable to use Flame Weapon, Darkfire, and a couple others on CEP weapons properly.

A DC 18 .. reflex save? Or is it a roll vs DEX ability?
Thanks for the info received so far.

Dex, I believe.
Although Dargana poison is a different check, if I'm correct.

Using the poisons made by Bioware requires a DEX check but Dargana poison is an Avlis custom item and works differently (a Heal check is required, i think).
I'll take a look at the Bioware poisons and if their properties are scripted we could look into making them work with CEP weapons.

also, I beleive... the damage is damage.
It is not a 1 minute effect.
It is fort vs damage, wait one minute, second fort vs damage again.
The damage is permanent until healed.

Nonono, sorry.
The duration applies to the time your weapon stays coated, not the poison effects. Just like using Alchemists Fire on a weapon. Should have been more clear.
When the poison is properly applied, you will see a glowing green effect, exactly like acid damage visual effect, on the affected weapon. From the time you coat it, there is a duration to how long it's effective.
