I want to file a griefing report on the AI! (DM, please read

well, this proves it! we have new lows in artifcial stupidity!

When I started my session, I was in the Mikona Iron Mine, near the Queen spider.

I had just gotten my gear and was attempting to gather ore.
I was unable to, though, because I got killed *again* by some spiders.

So, off to limbo (which also SUCKS, btw!) Limbo. Limbo lags. BADly
this makes it even worse than it would otherwise be.

So, I eventually get out of limbo. great, back to the Mine to get my stuff.

I do fine (I use invisibility) when I encountered some Umberhaulks. Now, I clicked on a point that was well past them, but for some reason, the AI decided I should *attack* them!

Back to Limbo.
I already discribed limbo.

back to the mine, this time with back up.

I get my gear, get out, and rest up. But, I still need ore.

So, back to the mine.

This time, I plan to avoid the queen spider.

I avoid her, I get lots of ore, I'm happy.

Untill, I meet the umber haulks, again!!

Again, the machine wont let me past them, oh and for some reason, the AI also decided to send five hook horrors to ambush me, nearly killing me, and to place two Gray Renders nearby, my PC is Lv. 7 I have never seen such massive numbers of spawn before, from just my PC, anyway!

So, I'm invisible, near all these baddies. I try to pass by, the computer has allowed me to do so before, and seems to allow me to, now. But then---LAG!!

I bungie back to where I started!
wash, rinse, repeat, several times.

Then the machine decides I attack them again.

then, I die, again!

Then the server times out!!!

So, what do I do to file that griefing report?

ok, I'm sorry for the lengthy near rant.

However, the server timed out *BEFORE* I could get to my corpse.

Just thought I should note that. :)

Basically, this has been one very, very bad day on Avlis for me. (and worse for Grag) :(

IIRC if the server crashed or was reset before you could get to your corpse then everthing should be returned to your inventory when you next log in

Camp them for a while with another higher level PC and get your revenge!

Next time hire protection for your travels down there....Crow still does it on occasion, and he will even entertain you with song while your there digging....not to mention his haste spells help get you out fast when your loaded down.

:D

and watch for those AoOs (attack of opportunity). As has been pointed out elsewhere, you can't turn the damned things off.

So often, on a laggy server, a fight is going ... well, just so-so ... so you reach for you overpriced heal potion, see the 'drink potion icon' appear on your screen, wait, wait, wait .... aaaggghhh AoO! .... and death!

Gets us all in time Grag.

The big spawns might have been because there was another PC in the same area btw.

Try using the directional keys "w,a,d, & s." Re-map the "w" key to walk instead of run. No accidental misclicks this way.

If there was a higher level PC nearby, that might account for the tougher spawns.

Again, try the directional keys. I've noticed in bad lag situations that I don't bounce around nearly as much, and if I do, it's usually a shorter distance.

Oh, and if you re-map "w" to walk, instead of run, be sure to map another easily remembered key to run. I use the space bar. I highly recommend this.

Side note: To anyone - is "re-map" the word I'm looking for, would there be a better way of explaining this?

Actually I noticed on a very rare occasion my PC will still attack when using the keyboard to move. Best course of action I have taken is to go into stealth mode even if already invisible. Havent had any problems with the AoA slips that way.

Re-map is the word you're looking for.

And BTW, Limbo doesn't intrinsically lag - you'll only experience lag there when the server itself, or your client specifically, are undergoing lag.

I'm sorry to hear you're not enjoying Limbo. Try to look at it as an exercise in Applied Chaos. Oh, and keep moving, no matter what you do. :)

Yup. AoOs will happen automatically when they're triggered. They're triggered when an opponent moves through an area that you threaten - so if you're running past something, OR standing still, and a foe moves around at all, you'll take a swing at it. It's often frustrating as hell, because quite often PCs don't want to take the AoO, but have no choice. That's built into the NWN engine though, sorry. :?

Wasn't one of the changes in 1.65 or 1.66 that an invisible person would not automatically do AoO's anymore?

Rules state that you're not supposed to go anywhere alone. The whole slant of the spawns is to get you to party up, so of course there is alot of them.

I am level 23, and even I am careful about where I go alone. Dwarf Mercenaries hurt like a sumabitch.

Just to say that I HATED limbo on my first visit - but go there a few times and you will come to enjoy the challenge - I now think that it is a GREAT place. Wouldn't want to live there, but fun to visit!

As everyone else says - stay clear of the monsters unless you know you can (a) sneak past without them seeing or (b) chop them to little pieces. Otherwise find some buddies to watch your back.

Yer all nutz. Limbo is the most awesome deathplane ever! I miss it, dearly.

Now that's an invitation to the developers to add planar travel - so you can visit death planes (even those not matching your alignment) without being dead! 8)

Just a quick note folks...
When things are laggy you will do better to use the keyboard to navigate.
When you click a spot to move to it, the server has to run the pathfinding routines for your PC also adding to the overhead.

A word on remapping the keys, walk especially...I've tried and failed a few times. Am I looking in the right place to do this?

Not in front of the interface right now but from memory it's Options->Controls->Keyboard?

Then just scroll down to the Drive forward command...

(someone correct me please)

Couldn't remember, had to find it in another thread. Sorry for not cleaning up all the quotes, but that takes time, and I'm at work.

Please excuse my ignorance, but if you don't like shift-clicking or turning detect mode on, what other option is there? If I don't have detect on, using the WASD keys makes me run.
You can alter the controls. Many people "map" the W key (which is Run by default to Walk). Look for the options under the Options/Control menu. I have my "W" key as Walk, and "Space" as Run (handy there as its under my thumb and if I get in trouble, I don't have to go hunting for it ;) )
