How do i sign up to get access to the private discussion forums?

Click on the Groups link at the top of the page. Select the group which you wish to see. If the group is "open" you will get an option to Join the group. This takes time, as the moderator has to accept you, for IC groups they may even want to interview you.
Not all groups are visible or accesible to everyone, for these you will have to learn about and ask around for these.
