The World of Avlis

Hi, my name is Magius9 and I am new to this Avlis and new to playing NWN online. If there way anything you could say to a newbie player that isn't covered in the FAQ what would it be?

Thank you for the offer and I'll probably take you up on your offer after I get accustomed to trying to actually Roleplay while playing a video game. Plus it has been 2 years since i Have really done any serious RPGing.

Could have sworn that this is the second newbie in as many days to have a post with the same exact question.

TIP: I forget what the FAQ covers, but the general rule of thumb is READ EVERYTHING.

TIP2: Learn to use the search button, top of the screen. If you have questions later, many newbies like you ask the same questions. You?ll be amazed at how many threads you can dig up. Furthermore, when you go to RP and someone says something you aren?t familiar with, write it down on a piece of paper, when your session ends, go to the boards and do a search on it. Trust me, with a world this big, there is always more to know.

TIP4: Ask questions when needed. The team is usually helpful and several members of the community make it our point to help people along.

TIP5: Relax, loosen up some tension. The more relaxed you are, the more fun you?ll have.

I'll repeat what the others have said a bit. I came to Avlis having only played modules where you gain several levels in the course of an hour and acquire items which enhanse your stats rather rapidly. It had its own fun, but certainly the enjoyment of rp is a bit lost in such rapid development. The biggest lesson that I have learned while at Avlis is to not even worry about experience and items. There have even been times where I look at my character and think that she is gaining experience TOO quickly. The best advice that I can give is to first, have an idea of what you want your character to be before you step into the world, and second, take your time to enjoy everything. I've even found myself doing nothing but talking to characters for periods greater then an hour, once for a four hour period of nothing but talking. What you find is that people get an idea of who your character is and they open up to you as well. Now everywhere I go, my character is warmly greated and people are willing to adventure with me. There are many different people with various character concepts. We can learn from them all and have an enjoyable experience. Well, I hope this helps.

I can't stress this enough. There is nothing worse than powerleving your way to level 20 and all te players and dm's going "Who is this powerleveling fuck?". When you shoot your way to the top and don't make friends or make yourself known you will find it will be very lonely.
