Dropped in to say G'day.

Post by Mark Oban » Fri Sep 27, 2019 5:23 am

I can't believe all the familiar names :D
I miss Avlis, in 35 years of gaming I've never come across anything like it and doubt I ever will, and I wish I had more time on my hands.
Last I played I was a DM, had an event on the next day, had a heart attack that night, (no it's wasn't because of the event), that was 10 years ago!
I still jump in once in a blue moon and walk up to my Wife and sons house that we shared, had some good times, great to see you are still having them :D

*waves* Hey you :)
And I was runnin' far away. Would I run off the world someday?
Nobody knows, nobody knows...And I was dancing in the rain
I felt alive and I can't complain

My wife and I where just having a chat about it, when she finishes her current semester we are going to jump in for a play, no doubt she will head to the basement of our house and start crafting again, while I'm out collecting her ingredients :?

Have you guys moved over to the enhanced edition? or are we still on the private server authentication?

We're still running on the old NWN 1.69, but there are steady efforts to get us moving towards Enhanced Edition I'm told. There's still the authentication server and whatnot, but we have a couple Discord servers set up if you'd like to hang out and chat. There's a bot that's pretty good at bridging chat between Discord and IRC as well if you prefer that program.

I spent about 15 years away and something pulled me back even after all those years. I spent some time playing NWN online and you soon realize that you're just in going through the motions doing dailies which gets old as soon as you get up to the max levels. I'm not even remembering getting to that max level before I stopped playing that game. It has some great battle mechanics though. I have to give it some props in that regard.

I think the one thing that sets Avlis apart from other places is sure you can run around killing monsters which can be fun at times, but pushing people towards interacting, or conversing with each other, gives the game more life, more substance. I find it quite challenging to roleplay another type of person other then yourself and am quite amazed at some people on here who can do it and do it convincingly.

I mean you can be just standing there chatting with people and a DM will drop 500xp just for bullshitting around with other characters. I think that it is pretty awesome that you can be rewarded for not slaying monsters.
