ORCS! (a.k.a. I've got some questions about ORCS!)

OK, so somehow I've managed to put off playing an orc until now, despite the fact that one of the main reasons why I joined Avlis was because "OMG! I can be an ORC!". Anyway, I've been looking at the stuff, and was wondering a couple of things about them:
1. How much does an orc's hatred of magic run for? For example, will they wear/use magically enchanted equipment? What about divine magic? Or are they ok with that?
2. How are orcs treated in human society?
3. Exactly what is "orctrain", the special ability orcs get?
I think that's the extent of my questions so far. Thanks for any replies.

Don't know the answers to your questions sorry. But yeah, another New Zealander. We're breeding! Maybe we could hook up ( on avlis) sometime?

Orcs have no problem with magically enchanted equipment, nor divine magic. Most orcs in Southern Avlis (I would assume) probably don't have any problems with arcane spellcasters, provided they aren't orcs (given that I know of at least three arcane spellcasters in the Order of Valok, I think this is probably a safe assumption, unless a Team member says it isn't). Of course, your orc could be a raging ultra-Conservative arcane-magic-hater if you want. Or even an all-magic-hater. Nothing says "fun" like "zealot."

Hell, there are some Orc mages out there, too. They tend to be shunned by other Orcs, and I wouldn't go hanging around too many Valokians, but they're there.

In my experience, pretty damn well. It helps that a large portion of Mikona worships the Orcs' god.
Keep in mind your reception in Elven or Dwarven society could be considerably worse.
Akchizar wrote:3. Exactly what is "orctrain", the special ability orcs get?
It's the same as the dwarven ability against greenskins: +1 on to-hit rolls against orcs.
I'll make a disclaimer that I am not a member of the team, and these are my experiences as a player.
Enjoy!

Sorry, do orcs get +1 to hit against orcs, or against dwarves?

Against orcs.
Implies that they're a somewhat aggressive bunch, eh?

Against
orcs (or so I've been told). That was not a typo.

The thing about arcane magics:
More specifically while the reason Dominators publically state for killing off any orcish mages seems to be "prevent Great War Pt.II" the structure of Brekon's society seems to also add the element that they want to make sure there's no potential rival to the Church of Valok's power like the Gold Order was during the Dobrekan period. Take that as you will, though while a devout of Valok probably professes all the right things about why orcish mages are bad, they'd probably be a bit leary about having arcane casters in their heirarchy at all. Hence divine magics are treated much more highly.
Also:
Please remember there's always the distinction between Brekonese orcs and Dubunatian(sounds like a breed of dog) orcs. Former is a nation that's a theocratic society run by the Church of Valok, latter is a feudal back-stabbing rule through fear of power monarchy. There's bound to be some cultural differences, even if The'ton(patron of Dubunat) is very close to Valok.

It's always worth noting that Orcs are supposed to be an intelligent spieces, not the morons that they are typically. You gain intelligence bonuses by creating one.
Of course you can make a dumb orc if you want, but they are created by Valok to be political, scheming and smart.
As is mentioned above they hate mages due to the great war catastophe, specifically orcish mages, whom they hunt and kill. Orcs that are born and raised in Southern Avlis could vary from this depending on what you decide their upbringing is. You could even make an Orcish Mage who escaped from persecution in Brekon and ran to Mikona. Just read the world info, and build your Orc to fit your desire and the world.

Hold on...I'm gonna need a map for this...
OK...got you. Yeah, the orc I'm thinking of creating sounds like a Dubunatian.
Just as a completely off-topic question...what with all the custom crafting, do the crafting skills (craft armour/weapons/traps) do anything? Actually, can you craft traps still? There doesn't seem to be any info in the player's guide...

The Bioware crafting skills are deactivated... so don't put any points into Craft Armor, Craft Weapon, or Craft Trap. CoPaP has its own skill system to craft with. (varies between worlds)
Also keep in mind that your Orc doesn't HAVE to be LE... it could be any alignment. It's just that most Orcs are LE, since Valok created them, after all.

I don't think my orc will be LE...
One last question (this will be the last one, I swear)...when i start an orc character, i start off being a half-orc, right? half-orcs get -2 to int. Now, when I become an orc, I get +1 to int, right? That means I'm looking at (at least) 4 new skill points for my first level...is that factored in (i.e. will I be able to spend those new skill points) or will I have to bypass a skill until second level?

You'll have to wait to put points into that skill 'til second level.
It's really not a big deal
at all. You'd be shocked how fast that first level goes.
