To what extent does the Mortal Magic Vortex control magic overall?

Is it a creation that's limited to controlling magic through-out Avlis(Which the wording strongly suggests) or is it something that spans through the planes?

If the former, how is the Vortex of Chaos explained in the context of MMV being an Avlis only influence?

Some sort of localized disturbance? Or was it something that Andrinor created on a whim?

Or does the extent of the mortal magic vortex surpass the planes and reach into other realms as such?(In which case I smell a large CoPaP debate, but..)

The vortex is a planar phenomena which Avlis' crystal sphere uses to power its magic. It is not the only source of magic in the planes. FR has "The Weave". We have a vortex. It has always been there. Andrinor gained control of it, but he did not create it... may wanna recheck your history there. Also remember there's a second vortex that powers the magic used by the Gods.

Well in the Vortex of Chaos plot, I thought it was implied that the VoC was actually capable of displacing the mortal magic one as the source of arcane magic on Avlis.(This was what I was referring to as something Andrinor created on a whim.)

The vortex of chaos was a piddly little magical contraption made by Andrinor as a ruse. It was infitesimally smaller than the real one, so no, it could not ever have done that, and an educated mage would have pointed that out. I think some did.

We'll, I pretty sure that rumor was passed during the Academy classes last weekend. I distinctly seem to remember one of the trainers claiming that when the VoC was in existance, IT was THE source of mortal magic on Avlis.
So is the final word now is that it was never THE source of MM, thus replacing the VoMM temporarily, was A source, in addition to the VoMM, or was NOT a source of MM at all?

What is stated in the thread by Orl and Choral is cold hard fact, consider it like sourcebook info.

However, what is passed as info in-game is what your character needs to base his understanding from.

However, what is passed as info in-game is what your character needs to base his understanding from.

Precisely so. In this thread you'll find the Actual Truth, which may have NO RELATION to what your character has been told and believes.
