Holy Warrior Ordination

Post by Deider » Mon May 16, 2005 12:20 pm

There has been a change to the way PCs can attain the various Avlis holy warrior PrCs (Blackguard, Champion, Dominator, Avenger, etc.). There are now three ways in which a PC can take these prestige classes:

1. Send a request to staff@avlis.org asking the team to run a quest for your PC. This has been and still is the least effective method, because it depends on there being a DM who has the time and inclination to run such a request.
2. Find a holy warrior PC who is 10th level or higher, since they have the ability to unlock the class for you through ‘training.’
3. Contact the player-run guild associated with the PrC you wish to take (Hands of Dru’El, Reavers of Maleki, Order of Aarilax, etc.) and ask them to run a quest for you to become a holy warrior. If the guild is satisfied with your performance, the guild leader will unlock the class for you.

#3 is new. Leaders of the holy order guilds, in the coming days you should see some new functionality on your leader token that enables you to unlock the appropriate PrC. Please check the guild leaders forum for more information.

Note: you still need to have the prerequisites (feats, skills, etc.) to be able to take levels in the class. That includes the proper alignment and deity in your deity field – there will be no Blackguards of Zo, I’m afraid :D

Damn I was really looking forward to spreading some of Zo's hatred and evil around, I'll have to scrap that character concept i had then.

This sounds fantastic, and also encourages interaction between potential warriors and the guilds, an excellent choice IMO :D

i'm a level 2 chaotic good ranger. if i want to become a Avenger of Dru'el all i need to do now is find a Avenger that's higher than level 10 so he/she can train me?

i thought the only way to contact avengers was through the Hand of Dru'el.

There's no PC Avenger currently ;) So your best bet, is still to go through with contacting the Hands.

This is a change in how Holy Warriors are handled.

You'll need to meet all the class prerequisites (as always), then find either a) the guild leader for the Hands of Dru'El, b) a DM, or c) a PC Avenger with 10 or more Avenger levels (none exist at this point). One of these people listed above will then provide you with whatever requirements they feel are appropriate; i.e. you'll be asked to do a quest or something like that.

Once you've satisfied the guild leader / DM / PC with 10+ levels of the appropriate Holy Warrior class, you'll have the PrC unlocked and will be able to take levels in it.

To clarify, does this now mean PCs can be holy warriors without being in relevant holy orders?

No Blackguards of Zo eh? We'll see about that....*Goes and adds the Chaotic Evil diety known as Zo to worshipable deities in Hades and cackles*

VERY glad to hear that!

I play a Paladin of Gorethar who for entirely IC reasons has deliberately avoided the OoG, and have sometimes felt like my decision to do so has been "frowned apon" by others as "unrealistic" or "out of character"?

I shall take this as the rubber-stamp of approval somewhat for my character concept, or at least as not obvious distain for "thinking outside the box"!

And Gairus, we love to too man (I know you were addressing the Team, but even so :P )

:)

Can we get the requirements stickied, perchance? I have been notified by DMs twice and players twice, but for some unknown reason I erased the PMs.

This should be in the player's guide and/or the wiki. Orl is hoping those two documents can cut down on the number of stickies here.

But in this case it's been posted in the World Info forums ages ago.
