In regards to the cool Kuras event and looting..

Post by bolo » Tue Aug 02, 2005 5:47 pm

I was the Reaver that had all the cool trinkets that were looted.

I don't want this to turn into a big-ass flamefest that'll get locked and deleted again.
First off, the DM told us not to take anything with us that we couldn't afford to lose.
Everything that was looted from Sunder's corpse, I am totally cool with, as most of it was secondary equipment. Actually, strange as it sounds, the only things I'll actually miss were the cool clothes that Bheem made for Sunder awhile back. I had them on me because if I'd stuck'em in a p-chest, the colors would change. But even that, I'm totally ok with.
Really, they're just items, and I thought their loss was just fine, considering the fun time we got in return

My best moment was chasing down that puny little archer and cutting him down ( mwahahaha ), and running throiugh the West Gate, and seeing someone say " Sunder's Here!", then knocking that person down ( err, actually it may have been Sunder's new pet Vrock, Twitch).
Ooh, and I almost forgot. Spitting fire from my helmet and seeing the building being egulfed in flames just rocked!

I'm sorry people felt they had to complain and fight over the stuff though. If I knew it would create bad feelings, I never wouldda brought it. I would've just bought total crap stuff.
I really hope this doesn't ruin folks' feeling about the event. I had a blast!
For me, this was even more fun than the time we attacked Elysia. I think you guys were great. Please don't let greed ruin the great time we all had.

However, I think it should be noted, we were told by the dm we would be looted, so we expected it.
That does not mean it is ok to go around dry looting evil folks ( or anybody else).
Far as I'm concerned, this was the rules of the event, which we all agreed to, and was a one time ( so far) deal.
That's my only concern about it. Let's not take what happaned as an excuse to throw the gentleman's agreement out the window. Outside of that event, I still consider dry looting as a really crappy thing to do to another character.

Game on, and no hard feelings :D

Pretty sure the new p-chest code has fixed that ...

The event was awesome, the trickery of making us go to the tournament, and make the attack was even better.

Fighting old allies, even though the gate I went to, I only menaged to see Sethra for the final minute, was even greater!

Yea, it was great and let's not get something as insignificant as a bunch of items for a game ruin the great fun!

Hey you were healing just inside West Gate, PyeWee Said "Sunders Here", as she was shooting with you crossbow bolts, she even sang you a Curse Song, then you got healed up real good, brought in your pet. Then you chased me, I made serious wrong turn, both your pet and you globbered me, express to my DP. :D I enjoyed it very much.

A very good attitude.

The whole point of setting these things up is for everyone to have a good time. Lets keep that in the forefront.

It is a great attitude to have, and it sounded like an excellent event. Im glad you took it so well, and if Sunder wants another outfit dyed the same way, Im sure we can figure something out... 8)

I'm thinking this was also a wakeup call to Kuras players that the bad guy isn't always going to have an IA.

I can see how Icegard is going to be a great help in Kuras. He knows the rules of the GA, he's fought CvC, and can teach others how things will be very different once the Kurathene Fiefs come online. Plus Tivn is a great little battle-gnome, should be a blast.

From someone who has not been involved in CvC at all, this is very important.

I will speak only for myself here, but I doubt my feelings are unique. The idea that the tension brought about by the distribution of loot, is related exclusively to greed, is simplistic. I am of the opinion that it is a matter of respect that is at issue. There were a lot of folks involved in this battle. It took all of them to bring it to its end. All however, did not 'participate' in the decision as to what to do with the spoils. Therein lies the genesis of this dispute.

As players we all have a responsibility to be concerned for the experience of our fellow players. To that end, communication is vital. My participation should not have ended with Jorik's dismissal, but with the mutually arrived at decision as to what comes next. Mayhaps in the discussion, all might have been convinced that Fifty's idea was the best, with 'ALL' going their ways happy. Mayhaps Fifty would have been convinced it wasn't such a good idea and down another path we 'ALL' would have went. Mayhaps no agreement would be reached, and instead a compromise achieved, but it would have been one we 'ALL' came up with. I would have loved to be involved in that part of this game, but wasn't. I can truly understand Fifty's IC reasons for wanting to follow this course, and find no fault there. However the bottom line is, its the OOC aspects that bring the conflict.

It is no mean feat to work this balance out in a world with so many diverse personalities, but we must do so at every opportunity, or watch animosity grow like a cancer. You can say that I am greedy beacuse I see this as a problem. If you do, you belittle me and my play. And worst of all, to make matters worse, I am pushed away from the community I come here for.

To sum it all up, the way to avoid this type of conflict, was learned by 'ALL' of us in Kindergarten, and while its an OOC rule, it surely applies. "Play nice and get along." Arbitrarily leaving some of us out of the game breaks this rule.

I have tried to coach my words in such a way as to be as unoffensive, as possible. Should anyone take offense, please accept my apology, as none was intended.

Your Virtual Companion,

Jody

This situation was poorly handled on Avlis you don’t dry loot PCs so I did not take my share off the fallen at the time (which would have been IC) its unfortunate that permissions where only given to a few on the field that day because now we have to follow the dictates of a second hand party as to how this treasure should be dealt with. It would have been better for the players themselves to say how they wanted their items dealt with before hand to all that are involved. I do hope that something is learned here so that this situation can be avoided next time//
I know your newish so I'll move your thread instead of deleting it outright. Do not put ooc comments in IC boards please, thankyou.

Considering they were Bolo's items, he can pretty much decide however he wants to deal with them. And if he has nothing against Fifty auctioning them, I can't see what's there to discuss. It's not like there's a god-given right to get items in a dm event. The times I've gotten items in an event can probably be counted by the fingers of a one-handed lepra patient, and I've been here for quite a while.

One clarification here. No one was given permission prior to the event to loot or dry loot.
Fifty had asked after the event if he could keep the items and auction them. I had no problem with it. I think I know of Fifty well enough that if I'd said "hell no, I want my stuiff back", he would've complied.

But there was no agreement beforehand that anybody could loot, in fact the DMs told me they'd hoped there wouldn't be any looting problems.
BUT they'd told us to be prepared.
And Wraith has always told us the same thing regarding events, particularly suicide missions. So what I did really reflects on him and the Reavers.

So we got our asses spanked, lost all our stuff, didn't really get anything out of it( we did our xp back that we lost when we DP'ed though). Damn.

Oh wait, we had fun ( on both sides) and got to rp in an event with other players run by DMs who don't get paid.
So we all came out winners. What's to complain about fer Chrissakes!
Get over it!
